MathCounts Mentoring Program (MMP)

What is MATHCOUNTS?

MATHCOUNTS is a national math enrichment program and competition series for middle school students in grades 6-8. The program is run by the MATHCOUNTS Foundation, a non-profit organization. It focuses on critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

The program has four levels of live, in-person competitions: School, Chapter, State, and National. As a mentor, you play a pivotal role in guiding students to reach their full potential and succeed at every level of competition.

What Should I Expect as a Coach/Mentor?

Coaches will work with small groups of students, guiding them through the process and helping them prepare for competition. A solid foundation of college mathematics fundamentals (Single Variable Calculus) is helpful, but is not required.

Coaches will teach specific topics (typically Algebra I/Geometry level) and review problems with the students. The MATHCOUNTS season runs from Fall to Winter Quarter (20 weeks).

Schedule: Once a week (Monday 2:30-3:30 or 3:30-4:30).
Location: Riverside STEM Academy (4466 Mt Vernon Ave, Riverside, CA 92507).
